Warner Bros. agrees blockbuster distribution deal with Viewster

Hamburg, July 26, 2012: Viewster and Warner Bros. today announce a distribution deal that will see the Studio’s current releases and brand new blockbusters, as well as around 1000 catalogue titles made available via Viewster’s successful VOD platform.

This two-part deal will make some of Warner Bros.’ most popular content available to Viewster users in German-speaking territories – beginning with Germany, followed by Austria and Switzerland – and in 11 fast-developing VOD markets, including Poland, Russia, Turkey, UAE, India and countries in South East Asia.

Rent or Buy Warner movies choice for Viewster users

The deal provides Viewster with both rental and digital sell-through rights on around 1000 Warner Bros. library titles, 250 of which will go live in the coming months.

“Warner Bros. is a legendary producer, as well as a hugely important owner of superb movie content”, said Viewster CEO Kai Henniges. “We are delighted that the Studio has recognised Viewster as a great way to deliver content on multiple devices in rapidly developing markets, and we are excited about bringing their blockbuster releases and fantastic library to our users.”

Tim van Dyk, Vice President Digital Distribution, Warner Bros. Entertainment GmbH, said: “Providing consumers with more choices and improving the movie experience at home is at the heart of Warner Bros.’ digital strategy. Viewster is an important platform, which can be accessed on many Smart-TV devices, as well as offering a cloud-based option for consumers to buy and store their favourite movies.”

Viewster also plans to migrate digital sales to the Ultraviolet content ecosystem once this new cloud-based digital locker service is launched in each territory. This will enable consumers to add Warner titles purchased through Viewster to their UltraViolet Digital Collection for unlimited consumption via multiple devices, enhancing the viewing experience further still.

Viewster delivers content to devices in over 100 territories worldwide and in more than 9 languages.

“We will be promoting Warner Bros.’ big new releases heavily throughout our ecosystem of devices: the web, connected TV sets and tablets, all supported by the films’ own microsites”, Henniges added. “Our job is to help excite users about watching movies at home, or on the move, via Viewster.”
